12) First, reflect on your experience this week. Read this article about Time Management. Ask your employer about their time management policy. Can you be late? What does this say about you? How timely are you? Reflect on the article and on your employer’s response. Picture idea: Take a picture of your personal planner, calendar, or scheduler.
My time spent at the hospital this week was a bit different from the usual. Since I arrive at the hospital pretty early in the morning there usually aren't too many guest, but this time there were more people in the guest room. I had the opportunity to speak with an adoptive parent, and it was a very eye-opening experience. I don't personally know anyone who was adopted, but after speaking with the parent I learned a lot about the process of even qualifying to adopt a baby, and I never knew it was that thorough. We talked about how long it took him to find a baby, how much paperwork was involved, and just how many laws there were in place for the safety of babies who are being adopted. After the conversation he went to see his baby girl, and I sat in my chair just thinking about the life that that baby girl would have with a father who clearly loved her so much already, and it was amazing. Later that day I met the baby's birth mother and the tone for conversation was a bit different, she seemed out of touch and distant, but I didn't overstep my boundaries, that's one thing I've learned is very important in a health and family environment, so I was talked about things like the weather and what was on the TV.
I completely agree with this journal, I try to be as early as I can for everything because as a kid when my mom took me places I was always late, to school, to birthday parties, to church, everything, and once I got my own car I vowed I would never be late, and I still am sometimes. It is not something I am proud of because as said in the article, being late in unacceptable. The people at St. John aren't too strict on volunteers being late, but even though they aren't I'm still early, right at 7:55, instead of 8 am. When it comes to opportunity I am never late, for example I was 15 minutes early for a job interview the other day, and I'm never late to the hospital, but when it comes to things like school, I just get lazy sometimes. I am trying to get myself together and "Check myself before I wreck myself", especially in college. As told to me by my presenter at Western Michigan this weekend, "You planner is your best friend".
